As the weather heats up, so does the list of ongoing activities to enjoy throughout the summer in the Hershey Harrisburg Region. In this edition, we tackle a few to kick start your itinerary building!

Spring Gate Vineyard is the newest “vineyard on the block,” and part of our Hershey Harrisburg Wine Country. Working with their sister vineyard in Virginia, they are growing grapes to build an estate wine portfolio, offering a range of dry and sweet wines to please any palate.

But wine isn’t all you’ll find at Spring Gate. In addition to Thirsty Thursday nights, live music on the weekend and guest chefs from area restaurants providing the grub, Spring Gate also is making and selling hard cider. The styles vary also from sweet to dry, and the offerings rotate each week.

It’s a perfect spot to park yourself on a warm summer day and enjoy wine by the glass or bottle on their spacious patio, overlooking Spring Gate’s beautiful grounds.

Mix and match this wine experience with any of these cultural events for a perfect summer weekend:

·         86th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Art Association of Harrisburg, May 27-Jun 19

o    The juror for the exhibition this year is Brian Rogers, artist and former Deputy Director for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Mr. Rogers selected the varied art for the exhibition from all the digital images submitted by artists from across the US and abroad, and then returned to select the prizewinning art after the show was installed in May.

·         Four Surreal Seasons Exhibit at Hershey Gardens, May 27-Sep 28

o    Discover this unique display of surreal art created by local art students. Created and presented by Pennsylvania College of Art & Design, located in Lancaster, PA.

·         Art in the Wild Exhibit at Wildwood Park, May 27-Oct 31

o    Visit the naturally inspired trailside creations of this environmental outdoor art exhibit set-up along Wildwood Park’s wandering trails and water pools. A map-brochure about the exhibit will be available.

·         Titans of the Ice Age 3D at Whitaker Center for Science & the Arts, May 31-Sep 14

o    Viewers are transported to the beautiful frozen landscapes of North America, Europe and Asia; ten thousand years before modern civilization. Dazzling computer-generated imagery brings this mysterious era to life – from saber-toothed cats and cave bears to dire wolves and woolly mammoths – giants both feared and hunted by prehistoric humans.
